Festive Fun
We had a fabulous time in our Christmas Party with Mrs Dyas's class and Mrs Sheppeard's class playing games and dancing. We then went to refuel ourselves with lovely party food and use all of our energy afterwards playing more games in the middle block hall. Take a look at us all having lots of Christmas fun in our photos.

Royal Letters
As part of our R.E. week the children
in Year One learnt all about Baptisms and the christening of Prince
George. As part of our topic, we sent congratulation cards to Prince
George and his family to celebrate his birth and his Christening. We
went on a walk to the post box to post our letters to Buckingham
Palace. We were astounded when every child received a sealed envelope
from Buckingham Palace with a picture of the royal baby to thank us
for the kind cards we had created. Miss Davies and Mrs Sheppeard were
also very excited to receive thank you letters.
PC Rob Thomas
On Thursday 28th November,
the children in Miss Davies’s class were lucky enough to have a
special visit from PC Rob Thomas. The children loved learning all
about the work of the police and how they keep us safe.
Anti bullying week
As part of the National Anti Bullying Week,
Miss Davies’s class made friendship potions and spells. We helped
Miss Davies’s friend ‘Sid’ to become a better friend and be
kind to his friends. The children wrote a friendship recipe and
created a bottle of this magical potion to take home. We all now know
how to be a fantastic friend!

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Miss
Davies’s class have thoroughly enjoyed learning about Snow White
and the Seven Dwarfs. We re-enacted the story, filmed it on our iPad
and watched it back on our interactive white board. We tasted some
yummy apple crumble which we made with Mrs Duncan and we made spoon
characters from the story with Miss Davies. It was great!

Mmmm Crumble
We have been looking at Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and as part of the story has a poisonous apple we thought it would be nice to make an apple crumble that wouldn't make us fall asleep. We looked at the type of apples we were going to use and then we made our crumble topping. We used flour, butter and sugar and rubbed it together so it was crumbly. We put it on top of our cooked apples and cooked it in the oven. It was very tasty and we didn't fall asleep.

Our trip to the castles
We had a fabulous day visiting Castell Coch and Caerphilly Castle. We loved the decorative rooms in Castell Coch and we enjoyed being a Prince or Princess for the day. We held the leaning tower in Caerphilly in case it fell down. It was a little scary. Take a look at or photos below.

Dan-yr-ogof Caves
We had a wonderful time in Dan-yr-ogof caves. We crept through the caves, it was very dark in one of them. We saw lots of different shapes and lots of water. The Bone cave was very scary but we were brave. We all felt very hungry after our walk and had a picnic next to some massive dinosaurs. We enjoyed visiting the farm, there were lots of llamas enjoying the sunshine. We finished our visit with a visit to the shop and enjoyed scrumptious ice-cream.

Dinosaur Activities
Our fortnightly topic is on dinosaurs. We have had plenty of fun looking and comparing dinosaurs. We have been busy with lots of dinosaur activities. We counted cubes and made dinosaurs from them, drew lots of pen drawings of our favourite dinosaur and we made mind maps with lots of dinosaur facts.

Mini Beast Hunt
Before we went on our mini beast hunt we discussed what mini beasts are and their identifying features. We went on a mini beast hunt around the school grounds and in the park. We took magnifying glasses and pots and collected some mini beasts. We brought them back into school where we compared and discussed them. We then set them free in our garden.

Science
We investigated the best way to clean copper coins and it was with ketchup. It was a messy experiment but we had lots of fun.
Our challenge was to make a bridge strong enough to hold dinosaurs but we could only use paper and masking tape. It was tricky but we did it!
We also explored "Lively Liquids". We put half a raisin into a glass of fizzy lemonade and watch the raisin rise (the bubbles made it go up). Then we put vegetable oil and water in a bottle, added food colouring and an Alka Selzer. Lots of tiny bubbles attached themselves to the coloured water and went up and down as the bubbles popped.
